PRONE

If a person is prone to some sort of behavior or activity, he or she is likely to do it or likely to get into that situation due to that person's personality, behaviour, background, or location. (Synonym: likely)

  • Ursula is very accident prone. (She's likely to get into an accident because she's careless or clumsy.)

  • A person who is accident prone should have good insurance.

  • Todd is prone to flatery, wherever it may originate.

  • Oklahoma is prone to tornadoes because of where it's located.

  • Areas prone to flooding are difficult to insure because the likelihood of repeated and costly damage is very high.

  • The country is prone to an attack because its leaders are incompetent.
